Class of 2009 Watch

Posted by roadster997 on November 21, 2006

Brock Osweiler QB/TE/ATH 6′8 240 Kalispell Flathead Montana Gonzaga (Basketball)

Brock is a versatile athlete who has already committed to play basketball at Gonzaga. He is considered to be one of the nation’s top hoop prospects in the Class of ‘09, but he is also an outstanding prep QB. As a freshman, he completed 21-of-49 passes for 600 yards. As a sophomore, he led Class AA (state’s largest classification) in passing (240.9) and total yards (245.6). He has a bazooka for an arm and as a freshman was effortlessly tossing the ball 50-55 yards downfield. He has drawn comparisons to Adam Morrison as a hoopster and will probably stick to that sport in college. If he was to play football, he would be one of the nation’s top overall QB/Athletes, with the potential of starring at QB, TE, OT or DE at the next level. One of the top athletes to emerge out of Montana in recent history.

Tyler Houska LB 6′3 210 Medina Highland Ohio

Houska is one of the top young linebackers in the midwest. He has a great frame that will fill out as he has kept his weight down to wrestle (he starred as a frosh wrestling at 189 pounds). He’s tough and aggressive, with a real nose for the ball. He uses leverage well and can get from sideline-to-sideline. As a sophomore, he was named First Team All-Northeast Inland District-Division III.

Kenny Allen DB/RB 5′10 170 Tampa Chamberlain Florida

Allen has emerged as one of the top sophomores on Florida’s Gulf Coast, showing off his skills both in the secondary and at RB. Last week he ran for an impressive 211 yards against a strong Land O’ Lakes team. As a freshman, he was named Honorable Mention All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Tribune as a DB. Very quick, has great hips and excellent ball skills.

Craig Drummond DL/LB 6′5 225 Chicago Morgan Park Illinois

Drummond is a tall and rangy DE/OLB for a program that has produced quite a bit of Division I talent in recent years. He has a great frame, runs very well and is quite athletic. Already looks like a senior. Very impressive during the 2006 combine circuit. Should emerge as one of the Chicago area’s top overall prospects.

Tui Crichton OL 6′3 285 Provo Timpview Utah

Crichton was a rare freshman starter for Timpview and has followed that up with an outstanding sophomore campaign. Plays on a talent-laden OL with a couple of upperclassmen whom are D-I prospects, but at the end of the day he could develop into the best of the bunch. He has nice size, excellent strengh and is fast enough to pull.

Derrick Buchanan TE/LB 6′4 204 Carlsbad San Diego Army-Navy Academy California

Buchanan has a great frame with a lot of room to fill out. He was a freshman starter at DE for Army-Navy and is also starting at TE as a sophomore. Runs very well and is very athletic. He also started at forward as a freshman on the basketball team. Once he gets stronger he will become one of the San Diego area’s top prospects.

Beau Blankenship RB 5′9 200 Norman North Oklahoma

Through mid-November Blankenship had helped lead North to a 6-5 record and rushed for 1,514 yards and 16 touchdowns. North beat crosstown rival Norman High for the first time in history, thanks to Blankenship and some other very talented sophomores. He runs low to the ground and with a nice combination of power and speed. He looked very good on the 2006 combine circuit.

Jerquari Schofield OL 6′3 240 South Aiken South Carolina

Schofield is a quick and explosive offensive tackle who possesses great athleticism. He plays well with leverage and really moves quickly off the snap. He should add about 40-50 pounds by the time he enters college. A potential blue-chipper.

Here come the linemen!

Thomas Hart OL 6′4 275 Orangeburg-Wilkinson South Carolina

Hart is one of the best young OL prospects in the Carolinas. He started as a freshman for a strong program and has a nice frame combined with excellent strength and athleticism. Unusually quick feet for a big kid. Being compard to former O-W All-American and current St. Louis Rams’ tackle Alex Barron.

Tyrece Ashmore OL 6′2 335 Washington-Wilkes Georgia

Ashmore is a powerful OG prospect who plays for a very strong team. As a freshman, he started the state semifinal and championship games. He uses his great strength and wide body to overpower prep linemen. One of the top sophomores in the state.

Rico Huggins OL 6′3 270 Wichita East Kansas

Sophomore starter on the offensive line and has a nice combination of size and speed. Quick enough to pull.

Bradley Franklin OL 6′2 305 Russellville Alabama

Plays for one of the state’s top programs and he was already big and strong enough as an eighth-grader to make the varsity roster. Real thick, but not fat, and has quick feet. Great strength and plays well with leverage.

Michael Philipp OL 6′3 285 San Bernardino Arroyo Valley California

The younger brother of University of Arizona-bound Hans Philipp (5-11, 290) is starring on the offensive line as a sophomore. Real aggressive and tough like his older brother but has a frame better-suited to big-time college ball.

Jeremy Simmons DL 6′4 308 5.31 Clay County Alabama

Simmons is a man-child of a prospect who will definitely be one of the nation’s top prospects in a couple of years. He really wowed people on the combine circuit after his freshman year, showing off his great frame, speed (5.31 combine forty, tremendous for a youngster his size) and quickness (outstanding 4.68 shuttle). This young prospect has as much upside as any sophomore lineman in the nation.

Justin Juckum DL/TE 6′5 214 4.99 Chilton Wisconsin

Juckum is a prospect whose best football is ahead of him. He didn’t have a lot of playing experience entering his sophomore year as he started playing the game late and has been hampered by injuries. He has a tremendous frame and wingspan and runs very, very well. He tested very well during the 2006 combine circuit, running a sub-5.0 forty and a great 4.57 shuttle. Also has pretty good strength for his yet-to-be-filled-out frame (15 bench reps) and a 33-inch vertical. Could also project as a college TE.

Marcus Brooks DL 6′6 215 St. Louis University Missouri

Brooks is another tall and wiry prep DE who has the sort of frame that colleges really love to see. Talented enough to start as a sophomore for a solid program, he is explosive off the ball and has excellent feet. One of the top young prospcts in the metro St. Louis.

Mike Colvin QB 6′2 180 Morristown New Jersey

Colvin made a name for himself at the Schiano Shootout at Rutgers last summer. As first year starter as a sophomore, he has good size and can run and throw very well. Has taken on a leadership role at a young age. Has the potential to emerge as one of the top prospects in the state by the time he’s a senior.

Andrew Holland QB 6′1 188 Cleveland St. Ignatius Ohio

Holland has stepped in and earned playing time as a sophomore ahead of several quality upperclassmen for the talented St. Ignatius program. It’s quite rare for a sophomore QB to do that at St. Iggy, a program that has produced several D-1 QBs, including Michigan State sophomore Brian Hoyer, most of whom did not earn starts until they were juniors. He has pretty good size for a young pup and can beat you with both his arm and leg. Leads a strong group of sophomores (see below for some more) at St. Iggy this year.

Alex Owah RB/DB 5′11 175 4.50 Harrisonburg Virginia

Alex is a very quick runner who shows off a great burst through the line, fine balance and an innate ability to read blocks and find the hole. The latest in a line of talented Owah brothers at Harrisonburg (older brother Andy was the starting TB last year). Through late-October he had already rushed for over 1,400 yards, averaging about 11 yards per carry. As a freshman he saw some varsity action as well, carrying the ball 15 times for 110 yards. Once he fills out he should become a national recruit.

Joseph Parris WR 6′1 173 Cleveland St. Ignatius Ohio

The younger brother of Notre Dame freshman WR Robby Parris has done an admirable job stepping into his older brother’s shoes as a rare sophomore starter for the powerful St. Iggy program. Not yet quite as tall as Robby, he’s still growing and like older bro’ shows impressive hops, hands and route-running ability to go along with deceptive speed. One of the better young prospects in Ohio this year.

Dan Fox TE/DL 6′3 205 Cleveland St. Ignatius Ohio

Continuing with talented sophomores at St. Iggy, Fox could well be the best prospect in the team’s Class of 2008. He is a talented TE/DE prospect with a great frame that still has to fill out. He has outstanding athletic ability to go along with his size, showing off outstanding quickness, pretty good strength and a mean streak on the field. A future big-timer.

Kawame Geathers OL/DL 6′4 310 5.20 Carvers Bay South Carolina

The latest in the assembly line of big-time Geathers prospects (his dad is former Buffalo Bill Robert Geathers and older brother Clifton was a prep AA last year). Was a two-way starter on the JV team as a freshman before making the jump to varsity in 2006. A man-child who some feel has the most potential of anyone in the family given his rare combination of size, power and athleticism. Another future all-american.

Marcus Kinney DL/OL 6′2 255 Clarksburg Maryland

Kinney starred ont he JV team as a freshman at Damascus before transferring to Clarksburg for his sophomore year. He is a quick and athletic nose tackle who has the size and frame to get bigger without losing his speed. One of the better young sophomores in Maryland.

Dominique Walker LB/RB 5′11 185 Charlotte Independence North Carolina

Walker is playing for a very, very strong program wihich has produced numerous D-1 players over the years (e.g. Chris Leak) and currently has the longest winning streak in the nation. He’s a super-quick and athletic LB who should fill out nicely over the next couple of years and emerge as a D-1 talent.

Thomas Gordan QB/ATH 5′11 180 Detroit Cass Tech Michigan

Gordon is the only sophomore playing for the always talented Cass Tech team and is their starting QB. He has led the team to the Detroit Public School League title, showing off great athleticism, quickness and surprising passing ability. More of an athlete than a QB, look for him to make a splash in college as either a DB or WR. One of Michigan’s best young prospects.

Eddie Lacey RB 6′2 210 Geismar Dutchtown Louisiana

Lacey is one of two outstanding young sophomore running backs for Dutchtown this year. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards and averages over 7 yards per carry. Has excellent size and benches over 300 pounds. He has combined with his classmate Kelvin York for over 28 TDs this year. They are virtually identical as running backs, showing a surprising combination of power, explosiveness and surprising speed running out of a wing-T offense. Two of the very best young prospects in Lousiana.

Kelvin York RB 6′1 205 Geismar Dutchtown Louisiana

Kelvin is one of two outstanding young sophomore running backs for Dutchtown this year. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards and averages over 7 yards per carry. Has excellent size and benches over 300 pounds. He has combined with his classmate Eddie Lacey for over 28 TDs this year. They are virtually identical as running backs, showing a surprising combination of power, explosiveness and surprising speed running out of a wing-T offense. Two of the very best young prospects in Lousiana.

Corey Brown WR 6′2 175 Monroeville Gateway Pennsylvania

Brown is one of several very talented underclassmen for the powerful Gateway program. From a school that has produced the likes of Justin King (Penn State) and Jon Ditto, Brown has the potential to join them as a future big-time college prospect. He is a tall and smooth WR who has fine speed and an exceptional pair of hands. Should emerge as one of theh nation’s elite receivers.

Reid Fragel TE/DL 6′7 230 Grosse Pointe South Michigan

South isn’t known for churning out D-1 talent, but that should change over the next couple of years with Reid Fragel and the state’s leading receiver, junior James Saros, on their way to becoming blue-chip recruits. Being my hometown, I’ve had a chance to see Reid play and he has a great frame and surprising athleticism for such a tall player. He has good bloodlines, as his older brother Mark was a lineman with Miami (Ohio) and his dad played at Michigan State and Northern Michigan. He’s a superior prospect to his brother. Has been to several summer camps and looked good at the Michigan and Northwestern camps. Also plays DE. Outstanding student.

Justis Oliver DL/OL 6′5 240 Hackensack New Jersey

Justis Oliver is an outstanding DE prospect who is already drawing serious D-1 attention. He reminds the Hackensack coaching staff of former All-State DE Jermaine Dias. He has great size and outstanding athleticism and quickness for a big sophomore. He should emerge as one of the nation’s top defensive linemen in a couple of years.

Isaac Okoye LB/DL 6′4 205 Centennial Eaglecrest Colorado

Okoye is a budding star as a sophomore DE for Eaglecrest. He has a great frame that has a lot of room to fill out and is very, very quick off the edge. Will probably fill into being a college DE down the road. A potential difference-maker and definitely one of the top young prospects in the Rocky Mountain region.

Nick Zachery DB/QB/PK/P 6′2 180 Sheridan Indiana

Zachery is one of the top prospects in Indiana. He really flourished as a freshman starter at QB and DB for the state Class 1A (smallest division) champions. He did it all as a freshman, posting 1,825 rushing yards on 229 carries and 419 passing yards. Through 13 games on defense he had 50 solo tackles, 42 tackle assists, 8 interceptions and 7 pass breakups. He also punted for a 41.4 average and averaged 44.1 for 62 kickoffs, with 8 touchbacks. Also an outstanding return man, he oes it all. He was named a First Team Underclass Class 1A All-State selection. I like him best as a college safety prospect due to his outstanding athleticism, size and speed. Has great football intangibles.

Class of 2009 Watch

Posted by roadster997 on November 8, 2006

Tim Curry QB 6′4 189 4.90 Elysian Fields Texas

Curry is a nice-sized QB who possesses a strong arm and fine athletic ability. He received an MVP award at the 2006 LSU summer camp and was also very impressive at the Arkansas State camp. He has a 31-inch vertical and runs the forty in under 5 seconds. He is enjoying a productive sophomore season and should emerge as one of the top QBs in the southwest in the near future.

Tracy Lampley RB 5′7 165 4.40 Wayne County Mississippi

A rare freshman starter for the Class 4A state champions, he rushed for 105 yards in the state title game. He has followed that up with an exceptional sophomore season and is considered by many to be the top sophomore RB in a talent-laden state. Lampley lacks great size, but is quick as a cat and can cut on a dime. Also an outstanding return man.

Keith Langtry WR/DB 6′0 170 4.55 Kansas City Rockhurst Missouri

Langtry is a smooth and talented WR/DB prospect out of one of the state of Missouri’s premier programs. He is putting up fine numbers as a sophomore two-way starter. He’s been especially effective as a sophomore playing in the slot, showing off nice quickness, good route-running ability and a fine pair of hands. In five games as a sophomore he has had 10 receptions for 206 yards. Is emerging as one of the top prospects in Missouri’s Class of 2008.

Danny Kistler OL 6′6 310 Seattle O’Dea Washington

Kistler is part of a very strong underclass contingent at O’Dea, a program that has produced more than it’s fair share of D-1 prospects over the years (the most recent being USC freshman Taylor Mays). He has tremendous size for a sophomore coupled with surprisingly quick feet and very good strength. Needs to work on his techniue, but that should come in time. Definitely one to watch in the next couple of years.

Dan Arnes DL 6′5 282 Stratford Wisconsin

Arnes is a rare sophomore starter for a team that has won three consecutive Division 6 state championships. This small school star is big and has a big-time future. He possesses a great frame and is surprisingly agile and athletic for a big guy. Also has pretty good strength, something he shows off by throwing the discus and shot put in track.

Aaron Slusher LB 5′11 200 South Charleston West Virginia

A talented and active linebacker who was named the Charleston Daily Mail Freshman of Year in 2005. A tackle-machine who has great football instincts and can go from sideline-to-sideline. Also plays fullback. One of West Virginia’s best.

Carlton Callender DB 6′2 185 Miami Southridge Florida

Callender was good enough as a freshman to play varsity ball for one of Dade County’s top programs (He was the only freshman to do so). He is following that up with an exceptional sophomore season, showing off his fine range, size and hitting ability as a future big-time safety prospect. Has a chance to be one of the nations elite recruits in a couple of years.
