The film was enough to attract attention. “I was shocked,” Jones said of the offer. “After I sent the tape, no, I wasn’t surprised at all,” Brown said. “I can see who he’s going to be in this offense in two years.” Brown said Jones’ speed helped his stock quickly rise. In the offense that Brown wants to utilize, Jones (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) will be a mobile quarterback, similar to the kind expected to be used by head coach Rich Rodriguez at Michigan. Jones hasn’t played football in the Spartanburg system for a couple of years after he got into some trouble, he said. He was one of the players that Brown went out into the community and got back in school during the spring. “He’s given me another chance, and I want to make sure I make the most of it,” Jones said. Jones said he is working hard to learn the offense and how to be a leader for the coming season. With the first offer on the table, Jones and Brown said they expect more to come. “I think he’s a guy that you have to get your name in the pot now,” Brown said. “(Michigan was) the first ones to offer him, and I’ll tell you, he is appreciative. People are going to have to do some recruiting now to get him.”

Macon, who just turned 15 years old a few weeks ago, has impressed everyone with his running, passing and playmaking ability. ‘‘His athletic ability speaks for itself,’’ Fecko said. ‘‘Something I’ve noticed, though, is that he makes great decisions. He’s certainly no sophomore when it comes to leading his team,. ‘‘He doesn’t get rattled if he’s rushed while trying to find a receiver. If no one is open, he finds a running lane which forces the defense to cover the entire field.’’ Saccoccia wasn’t surprised by the speedy development of his young quarterback. ‘‘Dwight is being raised by solid parents. He’s a humble kid who knows that he isn’t doing it by himself,’’ Saccoccia said. ‘‘His work ethic from the start earned Dwight the respect of his coaches and teammates.’’ In last week’s 44-29 repeat victory against powerful Canton Central, Macon carried the ball 31 times for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, in his first year of varsity football, Macon has rushed for 1,127 yards and passed for just fewer than 1,500 yards. A typical Flyers signal caller, Ray has a strong arm and the ability to run when the need arises. “He’s just like a lot of these kids. He just needs to play and get some experience,” Sunkett said. “Deontez gives us the added dimension of being able to run the football. Class of 2010: Miami Pace QB shines at Michigan summer camp

Posted by roadster997 on June 26, 2008

Miami Pace rising junior QB Stephen Morris really shined at the recent Michigan football camp.

Here is what the Miami Herald had to say about him:

“Stephen Morris, 15 of Miami Shores, Fla., recently received top honors at the University of Michigan Football Camp, winning both the Smokehouse indoor race and the Top Gun competition, which is awarded to the quarterback that scores the highest marks for throwing accuracy and distance.”

Check out the link below for the complete article.

Class of 2010: Some Michigan Talent

Posted by roadster997 on June 25, 2008

While players such as Jeremy Jackson, Austin White, Dior Mathis, William Gholston, Devin Gardner and Robert Bolden have been receiving a lot of hype during the 2008 camping and combine circuit, there are many other high-BCS level prospects in the state of Michigan’s Class of 2010.

Below are just a few prospects to really keep an eye on.

Eddins is probably the top prospect at Country Day next year (although Jason Ray will give him a run for his money).  He was a sophomore starter at DCDS and is a good athlete for his size.

Banks has a nice combination of size and speed and is one of the best in the PSL next year.  Playing in just the final four games of his sophomore season, he had 6 receptions for 308 yards and 2 TDs (an amazing 51.3 avg) and earned Second Team All-Detroit honors.

Jorgenson is a youngster I really like.  He is a tall and rangy tackle who’s numbers are combine-verified.  There are not too many tackles in the nation who have his combination of size and quick feet.

Phillips has been a stud LB at Waverly since his freshman season but may be growing into a lineman down the road.  As a mere frosh, he was the teams defensive MVP and recorded 102 tackles.  A nasty ‘backer who has great strength and can also move.  Again, his measurables are combine-verified.

Thomas is a prospect who I REALLY like.  A rare sophomore starter (the other was Robert Bolden) at talent-laden Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, he played OLB as a sophomore but projects as a college safety.  He can run, cover and come up and lay the wood.  He started his prep career at U-D Jesuit High (as did Dion Sims and Devin Gardner, by the way).

Like Phillips, Hollis is another prep ‘backer who may find himself playing with a hand down in college.  He has started at Central since his freshman season and is a real warrior on the field.  Michigan is his dream school.

Rea follows in the tradition of former Notre Dame Prep LBs Chris Colasanti (Penn State) and Alex Delisi (MSU), although the latter two eventually transferred out of Notre Dame Prep to Brother Rice and St. Marys, respectively.  So far, Rea is remaining at NDP, and his coach, John Callihan, says he is every bit as good at the same stage of his career as his two highly touted predecessors.  He has great instincts, reads and reacts well, will hit you hard and has the speed to excel in coverage.  He has started since his freshman season.

Sanders comes from great stock.  He is the youngest son of former Detroit Lion All-Pro tight end Charlie Sanders and is the most talented of his sons (an older brother started his career at Ohio State).  He is an outstanding two-way lineman who was a rare sophomore starter at Adams, a team that reached the state title game.  He is very athletic for his size and has good power.

Kamm may be the ultimate sleeper of the bunch.  Rarely am I excited about a rising junior who has yet to play varsity football.   In fact, the last time I was so excited with a sophomore JV player was back when former Michigan ‘backer David Harris was a rising junior in Grand Rapids.  Kamm’s team, Saginaw Nouvel, won the Division 6 state title.  He dressed for the state playoffs but Nouvel did not have any sophomores on their regular season roster.  He is a tall kid with a great frame and quick feet.    He just needs to work hard.  Older brother, Richard, is a 6-8 TE who signed with Northwood several years ago. His sister, Danielle (6-2), was the state’s Miss Basketball in 2002.
