The film was enough to attract attention. “I was shocked,” Jones said of the offer. “After I sent the tape, no, I wasn’t surprised at all,” Brown said. “I can see who he’s going to be in this offense in two years.” Brown said Jones’ speed helped his stock quickly rise. In the offense that Brown wants to utilize, Jones (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) will be a mobile quarterback, similar to the kind expected to be used by head coach Rich Rodriguez at Michigan. Jones hasn’t played football in the Spartanburg system for a couple of years after he got into some trouble, he said. He was one of the players that Brown went out into the community and got back in school during the spring. “He’s given me another chance, and I want to make sure I make the most of it,” Jones said. Jones said he is working hard to learn the offense and how to be a leader for the coming season. With the first offer on the table, Jones and Brown said they expect more to come. “I think he’s a guy that you have to get your name in the pot now,” Brown said. “(Michigan was) the first ones to offer him, and I’ll tell you, he is appreciative. People are going to have to do some recruiting now to get him.”

Macon, who just turned 15 years old a few weeks ago, has impressed everyone with his running, passing and playmaking ability. ‘‘His athletic ability speaks for itself,’’ Fecko said. ‘‘Something I’ve noticed, though, is that he makes great decisions. He’s certainly no sophomore when it comes to leading his team,. ‘‘He doesn’t get rattled if he’s rushed while trying to find a receiver. If no one is open, he finds a running lane which forces the defense to cover the entire field.’’ Saccoccia wasn’t surprised by the speedy development of his young quarterback. ‘‘Dwight is being raised by solid parents. He’s a humble kid who knows that he isn’t doing it by himself,’’ Saccoccia said. ‘‘His work ethic from the start earned Dwight the respect of his coaches and teammates.’’ In last week’s 44-29 repeat victory against powerful Canton Central, Macon carried the ball 31 times for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, in his first year of varsity football, Macon has rushed for 1,127 yards and passed for just fewer than 1,500 yards. jim how did you miss marshyl rothman-jupiter christian(FL).all-state ,all-area,all-county led team to a state championship.led a 4 county area in td passes.

    Ryan,

Marshall is a very good high school player but will need to get a bit bigger to be ranked among the top dual-threat QBs in the nation. At a recent combine he measured in at 5-8, 156 and ran a 4.93 forty. Here is a partial extract from my database on him:

One of the better junior QBs in Florida……….. As a sophomore QB, he had 62 carries for 157 yards (2.53 ypc) and 6 TDs and completed 96 of 157 passes (57.5%) for 1,503 yards, 24 TDs and 8 INTs…………………..Small school star who needs to get bigger to get D-I looks…………..Impressive at the 2008 Miami Dolphins Academy 7-on-7 Tournament…………….He looked fairly good at the May 2008 Tuscaloosa Elite 11 QB Camp

jim thanks for the input.yes his size will limit his d-1 options.he is still getting some looks and has a couple of years.i believe upper tier 1aa will be a great fit.at scout.com combine and shumans his 40 was 4.72-4.75.but look at shuttle times and lcone .4.1(now a 3.97 at last running) and 6.88 very good on both counts.strong showing at the addidas 7 0n 7 at ucf,led team to final 4 last weekend.what is your ranking on him with other fl qbs for 2010?does game experience and state title factor in? thanks

    Jim,

One to consider is Josh Marshall, QB Tuscarora High School, Frederick Maryland (He is listed on your top Maryland prospects 2x, once as Josh Marshall and once as Joshua Marshall). Tuscarora runs a spread offense and he runs and throws alot. led his teams to 15-3 record as freshman and sophomore. Timed at 4.55 at Shuman National Underclassmen combine in the 40 yard dash this spring, and 4.29 in the pro agility. 6′2″ 185lbs. He and his team competed very well in spring 7vs7 tournaments including a runner up finish against a very strong field at the MD.Varisty.com Passing Jamboree. Thanks.

      Tay,

I know all about Blake. I currently have him ranked as one of the top DB prospects in the nation, but frankly, he could easily play QB at the D-I level as well. He is just one of those kids who is so athletic that he has potential at several positions. He would be a great fit in a spread option offense as a QB, at a school like Michigan or West Virginia. As a safety he could be downright special.
